Q1: in what ways does your media product (music magazine) use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media products?
My music magazine establishes and challenges forms and conventions of real music magazines as my front cover follows the conventions. I want to follow XXL because my music genres (afrobeats and grime) have a relationship with hip-hop. If I copy XXL to much it will look similar which isn’t good because people will think it’s an imitation of XXL. I also had the coverslines over shadowing her however Instead of the front cover model being male I changed it to a female. I used took some ideas from the XXL masterhead by using big bold font and having a background. I also change the genre of music to afrobeat and grime because it based in the UK.
Q2: how does your media product represent particular social groups?
My social group for A2G is young adults aged from 16-25. I target both male and female because both genders tend to like grime and afrobeats. Even though my magazine is for both genders it occurs that men usually tend to be interested in grime more than females. For example XXL is a hip-hop magazine similar to A2G, 78% of XXL readers are male and 22% of readers are women.
Q3: what kind of media institution might distribute your media product (music magazine) and why?
I think that EMAP Bauer would publish and distribute my magazine because EMAP Bauer is Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. EMAP Bauer is a worldwide media business that has over 300 magazines in 15 countries. Which is good for my target audience of A2G magazine to notice the magazine as the age limit for the publication is 16-25. Afrobeats is a growing music genre which is known in many countries but they’re hardly any magazines about Afrobeats which will appeal to the many as something different. Grime is UK based so readers will be interested in learning about a different culture. EMAP Bauer are linked with various music channels and radios that’s good because my magazine is about music.
Q4: who would be the audience for your media product (music magazine)?
The audience for my magazine is young adults aged from 16-25. The reason for this is because i think that this is the age where you can most understand and relate to the artist in hand. The target gender for my music magazine is both male and female because i feel that most music magazines target one gender so this creates segregation in the music magazine market. My target ethnicity is black Caribbean/African because they are the ones who are most interested in afrobeats and grime.
Q5: how did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted the audience by having a healthy colour scheme and house style for music magazine. The audiences said "Good colour choice” “A simple but effective layout". "Great colour scheme” I feel that having a strong colour scheme would attract the audience. Just as my case study, NME is known from the strong colour scheme red (which relates to their genre rock).
Q6: what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I
used InDesign for the contents page and double page spread. When making a double page spread and contents page layers are very important so learning to use the layers correctly was challenging and useful because it helped manufacture my magazine, when adding text to my content page and double page spread.
Q7: looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From the preliminary task i had 3 developments which are one to use professional photography for the images by using a better camera and using a studio as this would make the images of the magazine professional and less blurry. I accomplished this because i was able to use the photography studio and i also had a induction on how to use it effectively.
